Hints of global cuisine, inspired by Zar’s travels around the world, are also integrated throughout the menu. The beverage program, inspired by Zar’s favorite signature cocktails and regional wines, is comprised of standout, premium cocktails made with quality liquor made from top international and local distillers. Our cocktail menu is filled with unique interpretations of approachable, trending cocktails of the time, but that also reflect the bar’s ambience: warm, inviting, and personable.

Zaryab Sheikh, better known as Zar, is Owner of ZARZ on First in Southwest Portland, Oregon, a neighborhood bar with an approachable food menu featuring elevated classic comfort food. Sheikh graduated from the University of Portland in 1979 with his master’s degree in Business. Prior to venturing into the hospitality industry he spent almost two decades as a VP of Operations & Finance for Circle International (now CEVA Logistics). During his time at CEVA, he was also stationed in Europe where he began to find his inner passion for food and drink. His eclectic taste in great cuisine and even better cocktails led him to some of the most well known dive bars and restaurants in Europe - Rules, the oldest restaurant in London, The Fat Duck and The Waterside Inn, two well-known three-star Michelin star restaurants in Bray, are some of his favorites. He eventually moved back to his home in Portland after 16 years with CEVA and embarked on his own venture, where he now owns and operates four hotels throughout the Pacific Northwest including one in Troutdale, two in The Dalles and one in Pasco, Washington.
Eric was born in Portland Oregon. His culinary career began in Santa Barbara California at the four seasons Biltmore hotel in Montecito. After Santa Barbara Eldridge came back to Portland to work at the Nines hotel. The Nines butchery program led by Executive Chef Matt Christianson inspired Eric to spend the next few years on whole carcass butchery with an added emphasis on local and sustainable products.
Eric became the Chef of the Executive Briefing Center at Intel in Hillsboro Oregon with Chef Ron Stewart. Today Eldridge remains passionate about creating menus with Northwestern raised proteins and organic vegetables. Eric enjoys spending his free time with the sweetest dog in the world, she is so sweet her name is Sugar.
